About Physiologic Instruments

Physiologic Instruments

Designs and manufactures instrumentation, EasyMount Ussing chamber systems and data acquisition products for studying transport across epithelial barriers. Transepithelial voltage, short-circuit current and resistance are measured using single and multi-channel voltage/current clamps that may be directly connected to Acquire & Analyze for automating data collection and analysis.

Recent Client Reviews

Hey guys, I wanted to say again how wonderful it was to have you help us set up our Ussing Chamber. Things went well and we definitely could not have gotten things started without your assistance--you guys are worth EVERY PENNY we spent on this.

Introduction to Ussing Chamber Components

Chamber Components

Ussing Chamber Components

The EasyMount Ussing Chamber Components are used for studying ion transport across epithelial barriers. The EasyMount Ussing Chamber System may be paired with single or multi-channel voltage clamps (Voltage Clamps) to measure the transepithelial voltage, short circuit current and resistance.

The EasyMount stand is made of brightly anodized aluminum and uses spring-loaded brackets ("cradles") to hold the chamber firmly against a plate of aluminum we call a "heatblock". Water from a circulating water bath is pumped though the heatblock to control the temperature in the chambers. Air control valves located atop the heatblock are used to finely adjust the flow of gas through the chamber to provide circulation and stirring as well as oxygenation of the solutions bathing the tissues.

The EasyMount Ussing Chamber System has been designed for ease of use and easy cleanup while working with up to 2, 4, 6 or 8 tissue or cell culture samples simultaneously. Tissues and/or cell cultures are first placed in a holder we call a "slider" which is then inserted into the chamber. Unlike competing Ussing systems, the chamber does not have to be removed from its holder on the stand nor do the electrodes have to be disturbed during the process of mounting the tissue sample.

Moreover, because the tissues are first mounted on a slider, a wide variety of epithelial tissues can be studied in the same chamber simply by selecting a slider appropriate for that tissue. Only the slider needs to be changed, not the whole chamber.

EasyMount Ussing Chamber Systems accommodate three types of EasyMount Ussing Chambers:
Intestinal Specific P2250 Chambers (EM-RSYS Series) Accommodates intestinal tissues and has a usable half chamber volume of 2.0 - 7.0 ml
Standard P2300 Chambers (EM-CSYS Series) Accommodates the largest variety of tissues and cell cultures and has a usable half chamber volume of 2.0 - 7.0 ml
Low-Volume P2400 Chambers (EM-LVSYS Series) Accommodates a large variety of tissues and has a usable half chamber volume of 1.0 - 7.0 ml

Sliders for each of these chambers can be found under Chamber Sliders.
